Leftovers from the War

a museum performance

HELSINKI - The National Museum of Finland

In 2012 the newest acquisitions of the National Museum of Finland was: Four artists all born around 1970 on different sides of the Iron Curtain.

They all belong to a generation who think that history is something you Google. But nasty middle life has decided to slap them in the face, forcing them to look at their position in a bigger scheme of things. In doing so they have created four exclusive tours of the museum, taking you on an artistic journey through their family stories.

In a time where things move fast and access to information is unlimited it is important to know yourself. For this reason the artists have joined forces to revived the ghosts of the past, shine light on the shadow of the war and make peace with their passports.

ODSHERRED - Museum of local history

Leftovers of the War journeyed to Odsherred, Denmark for the OK13 Festival in 2013.

The location was the small local cultural history museum and surrounding outdoor spaces. We were accompanied by Darth Vader and a Teddy Bear.

History, fiction and personal stories are mixed in a poetic and completely different visit to the museum and ends with a bedtime story in the garden.

RIGA - Stura Maja / the corner house

In 2014 Leftovers of the War was part of the Culture Capital Riga program in the old KGB house, Stura Maja.

For the Leftovers of the War performance you will receive a lottery ticket that will be your compass through the experience, spanning over monumental wars like World War II or private conflicts like divorce.

We filled a floor of the building with our family stories and an Angel, Darth Vader was still in tow.

Finally we released balloons in Stura Maja’s courtyard to commemorate the people who lost their lives under the Communist regime.
